Unusual Colours

On Friday I took a day off work for some “me time” and included a trip to the airport to see if anything interesting was about. There was!

Although I have managed to catch Air Chathams’ ZK-MCO before, I only had a distant shot of ZK-MCU2. That has now been remedied.

Air Chathams ATR-GIE ATR72-500, ZK-MCU2, departs Wellington’s RWY34.

After spotting the ATR, I checked upcoming arrivals and was delighted to see Air New Zealand’s latest Star Alliance-liveried aircraft was due in. I had plenty of time to decide where to be for the best shots, namely by the approach windsock for RWY34.

Air New Zealand Airbus A320neo, ZK-OYB, drifts over the threshold of RWY34.

I had not thought to check what aircraft were already on the ground, but even if I did, I don’t think I would have realised this next aircraft was special. Qantas have several interesting schemes on their fleet, including this wonderful indigenous artwork called Mendoowoorrji.

Qantas Boeing 737-800, VH-XZJ Mendoowoorrji, throttles up for a RWY34 departure.

You can see the full crop of aircraft photos from the visit here on Flickr.
